The Lake County Publishing Editorial Board is proud to announce its endorsement of Congressman Mike Thompson for California's Fifth District.

Thompson knows Lake County, not just the issues, but the people.

He has an accessible, active and proactive presence in Lake County.

He is here year-round, not just around election time, addressing the challenges of a rural area that often has a muted voice.

We appreciate his dedication to the county and its needs.

Mike Thompson was first elected to represent California's 1st Congressional District in 1998.

Welcome

Welcome to my campaign website. I am proud and excited to announce that I am seeking re-election in the newly drawn Fifth Congressional District of California. From Lake County to Sonoma, to Napa, Solano and Contra Costa, I will continue my fight to create jobs, bring fiscally responsible solutions to the federal government, protect our seniors by strengthening Social Security and Medicare, and making sure our veterans and military families receive the benefits they have earned.

I was born, grew up and still live in our district. The new Fifth district will include areas I have always represented during my time in public office, areas I have represented in the past, and some new areas – Martinez, Pinole, Hercules, Crockett and Rodeo. I look forward to working with the all the great people of our district to strengthen our communities and deliver solutions to the challenges facing families.

In Congress I will consistently have one agenda: taking the opportunities and challenges we face in Northern California to Washington, coming up with solutions, and returning home with results. My success as an effective leader on job creation, budget discipline, veterans benefits, and the preservation of Social Security and Medicare is owed to the support I receive from people I represent.

Please join me in our 2012 campaign. I have always believed that the foundation of effective public service is open and active communication. Contact me with your ideas and concerns. Join our campaign as a volunteer or offer your financial support. Sign-up to hear about upcoming events and news. Together we will make the opportunities and challenges we face in Northern California heard in Washington, come up with solutions, and return home with results that make our district a better place to live, work and raise a family.

Thanks for taking the time to learn about our campaign. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Jobs and The Economy

“Middle class families, and those fighting to get into the middle class, were hit hardest by the economic downturn. We must make smart investments in infrastructure, new economic engines and education that will put people back to work, and put our economy on solid ground for years to come.”

Jobs are my number one priority, and the best way to get our economy going is to put Americans back to work fixing our schools, roads, and bridges. I have a jobs plan that I am fighting for in Congress that puts people back to work rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure, and decreases our national debt by nearly $65 billion over ten years.
