Washington – Today Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Chairman Mike Thompson (CA-05) announced that Member-Elect Gil Cisneros (CA-39) has joined the Task Force for the 116th Congress.

"My family has been affected by the gun violence epidemic, as my mother lost her father to a senseless act of gun violence. We cannot let shootings in our country become the new normal, and I refuse to allow guns in our schools,” said Member-Elect Cisneros. “I'm honored to join Congressman Thompson's House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, and I look forward to working alongside the Congressman and the Task Force to end this epidemic. Together, we can push for common sense gun safety legislation that keeps our children and our communities safe."

“Gil understands the importance and urgency of our work to combat gun violence and I am proud to have him join the Task Force,” said Chairman Thompson. “With voices like Gil, I know we will be able to get to work right away passing legislation that will help keep our communities safe from gun violence.”

Cisneros was a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy and he has spoken out in favor of universal background checks, closing the "gun show" and "boyfriend" loopholes, banning bump stocks, and repealing the Dickey Amendment.
