Thompson to Hold Firearm Safe Storage Press Conference in Woodland

Press Release

Posted:

Woodland – On Monday, September 11, Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-04) will hold a press conference at the Tractor Supply Company store in Woodland from 3:00 pm – 3:30 pm. He will discuss efforts in Congress to ensure that responsible gun owners are not discouraged from purchasing gun safes because of high tariffs.

In July, Rep. Thompson led a letter with 50 Members of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force to Commerce Secretary Raimondo seeking to reverse the tariffs that were inappropriately placed on gun safes making them unaffordable to many gun owners.

When the Administration placed tariffs on metal lockers from China, they excluded gun safes from retaliatory tariffs because of the public health benefits of this product. When the Commerce Department implemented the tariffs, they placed tariffs on several common gun safes which should have been excluded from tariffs. These tariffs threatened to increase prices on common models of gun safes and discourage gun owners from responsibly storing their firearms. Additional details are below:
