Thompson Votes to Pass Equality Act Landmark LGBTQ and gender rights bill heads to Senate
Washington – Today Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) voted to pass H.R. 5, the Equality Act, which includes sweeping changes to end discrimination against LGBTQ Americans in education, employment, housing, and other public accommodations. With the current patchwork of state laws, LGBTQ individuals in America still risk being fired, evicted, or denied service because of who they are. This bill amends the Civil Rights Act to specifically prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

Washington – Today Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05), a member of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health, voted to pass H.R. 987, the Strengthening Health Care and Lowering Prescription Drug Costs Act. This bill helps to bring down the cost of medications by bringing cheaper generic drugs to market more quickly and strengthens the Affordable Care Act against Administration efforts to invalidate the law, drive up health insurance premiums and reduce health care coverage.

Washington – Today Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) announced that local judges have selected Nalani Marlowe from Kelseyville High School in Lake County as the 2019 Fifth Congressional District Art Competition Grand Prize Winner. Her art piece, A Day in the Life, will hang in the halls of the United States Capitol for one year and she will be honored at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. next month.
